This section alone covers an enormous portion of what appears in UPSC and State PSC papers on modern Indian history.

Then Class 9 India and the Contemporary World I covers the French Revolution, socialism in Europe and the Russian Revolution, Nazism and the rise of Hitler, forest society and colonialism, and pastoralists in the modern world. Class 10 India and the Contemporary World II covers the rise of nationalism in Europe, nationalism in India with detailed treatment of the Non-Cooperation Movement and Civil Disobedience Movement, the making of a global world, the age of industrialisation, and print culture and the modern world.

The Class 11 books are where the depth really builds. Themes in World History covers writing and city life, an empire across three continents referring to the Roman Empire, nomadic empires including the Mongols, the three orders of medieval Europe, changing cultural traditions from the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries, confrontation of cultures during European expansion, the industrial revolution, displacing indigenous peoples, paths to modernisation in Japan and China.
